SPOILERS FOR GOT

(Anonymous) 2019-05-09 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The whole series was one big hype about how winter is coming, the long night, the night king, etc.

Well it came. It wasn't all that long. He dead.

It was the premature ejaculation of battles. So much foreplay. So little action.

Agreed. Sure, it was a surprise. It was also bad writing.

I know! Winter (as in the season) didn't even reach fucking King's Landing to show the Night King had gathered up his posse, breached the Wall, and was strutting with all his power.

At least have Cersei stare up into the falling snow in that cut to King's Landing in the earlier episodes. A cut to one of the deserts and a shot of people in shock of snow falling in the hot daytime. Something! Anything to show he was a world threat.

Or R'hllor! Fire to ice, literally set up as a counterpart to the Great Other god of ice and death, can raise also zombies but a different kind, whoops guess the god wasn't important. Just there to light fires a few times.

I thought that's what they were going to do with the winter stuff too. Bit disappointed. Couldn't afford to rent a snow machine or what?

And yes! There's so many questions about the mythology that haven't been answered and it doesn't feel deliberate, just lazy.

They blew the budget on that one blizzard he used to confuse Dany, Jon and the dragons I guess.

I'd have enjoyed that so much more. I want winter.

Yeah, I feel like I should have seen this coming. The show had always been more interested in the characters and the fight for the throne more, even though the whole point of the "game" was that as interesting and complex as it all is none of it matters because the Long Night is coming. With the way seasons 5-7 played out, I should have known that they would do fuckall with that and be more interested in giving fan favorites iconic shots that make good memes.

I know it was never going to happen, but I was kind of hoping that the Night King would swing south and depopulate King's Landing before doubling back to take on the North. Make that throwaway line about a million more soldiers in the army of the dead mean something.
