Good news! The directors said he went to an alternate universe. So, hopefully in the one he changed everything for the better.

Except bad news, the writers said he didn't go to an alternate universe.

Except that since it wasn't explicitly explained in the film and with all the chatter by the fans, the canon of old Steve is still up in the air and TBQH I think Marvel may feel like this doesn't need an explanation and never clarify it and leave it to fans to discuss.

Alternate timeline, whatever.

AYRT

I wasn't quibbling over alternate universe vs alternate timeline. I was saying that the people who actually wrote the movie said it was a time loop, not an alternate timeline/universe.

"That is our theory," he says when asked if there were two Captain Americas in existence for a time. "We are not experts on time travel, but the Ancient One specifically states that when you take an Infinity Stone out of a timeline it creates a new timeline. So Steve going back and just being there would not create a new timeline. So I reject the "Steve is in an alternate reality" theory."

"I do believe that there is simply a period in world history from about '48 to now where there are two Steve Rogers," he continues, further confusing matters. "And anyway, for a large chunk of that one of them is frozen in ice. So it's not like they'd be running into each other."

That doesn't make any goddamn sense. If that were true, then he essentially robbed Peggy of the family she had, and that makes him a greedy sack of shit.

I won't even get into how his prior knowledge of everything else would have basically changed everything else up until that point. And if it didn't, and he kept to himself the secrets of Hydra and Bucky's brainwashing, then he's a huge asshole.

Steve's not the kind of person who would up and do that kind of shit, knowing the repercussions his actions could have on the future.

Fucking do better, writers.

Yeah, it doesn't make logical sense that he went to an alternate universe with the way the other timejumps worked. That was fucked up.

Then how does he get back to this one? If he'd used the wrist-thingy he'd have materialized back on the platform he left on. But he's there waiting as if he's been in this world the whole time?

He showed with the shield for Sam, and he didn't have it when he jumped (it was destroyed by Thanos in the fight), so SOMETHING has changed in the time he's lived.
