Major KH3 spoilers

(Anonymous) 2019-05-10 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
I loved KH3 aside from how Kairi was treated but tbh anyone who thought she was going to suddenly be a main feature after so long are fuckin' stupid and set themselves up for failure. It gave me pretty much everything I wanted, and I also don't think it needed a lot of Final Fantasy or even any to stand tall. KH is its own thing, and lbr part of what drew all of us in as kids was probably our favorite Disney characters.

Sora was fun, the gameplay was fun, the plot went no holds barred and the fact it literally killed the entire main cast at one point was amazing, and the lines from Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, made me fuckin' cry because I've been here since the beginning. "There is more to seek, so go forth now and seek it" was such a great message to the fans as well as the characters from the villain who started it all in this series.

Eh, I've been here since the beginning too and I really felt like KH lost a lot of itself in 3. There was just too much to cover and nothing got enough time, so admittedly the inclusion of MORE (the ff characters, who, if you'll recall, were seriously major players in the storylines of 1 and 2) would have probably been a mistake, but not having them there felt wrong, and the entire plot felt rushed to the finish.

Kairi's treatment fell prey to that too, so I can't entirely blame it on !!!misogyny!!! like a lot of people want to, but it is disappointing that after so much buildup for her (and Axel, actually, while we're on the topic) to be one of the Keyblade Masters and that she was gonna come in kickin' ass only for her to be... essentially fridged was kind of a smack in the face. One of those "disappointed but not surprised" things.

There was a lot that was good about KH3, don't get me wrong. But imo it wasn't enough to save it from being an only mediocre game, even just within its own universe.

See, I actually found their getting trampled realistic in the grand scheme of things because any direct offshoot of Xehanort has a lot of battle experience (Xehanort is like 80+) and tbh I think the only reason Sora won is because he just plain refused to give up and had such a strong bond with Donald and Goofy that he kept going.

I would agree with you if it wasn't Kingdom Hearts we were talking about. A series that has always done the whole "the good guys win because they're good and also magic" thing, which is completely fine! It's emotionally satisfying and it fits the universe.

This didn't fit. It was stunted and felt incomplete, and granted you could say that it was intended that way as a sort of statement, but if that's the case, it was a literal first for the series. Which... you can't really just drop that close to the ending of the entire saga without it feeling jarring, and not in a deep or thoughtful sort of way.

Eh, not entirely, I feel? BBS is literally "the heroes lose." The best they did was prevent the X-blade, which was quickly established as not even being the way you were supposed to make it so chances were it wasn't gonna stick around anyway.

I don't understand how anyone ever got to like Kairi enough to care about how she's treated. She was never even a character. She was a person-shaped plot-device. Caring about her is like caring about a tree in the scenery or something.

I liked her, but admittedly I was also long ready for her to be a plot device. She won me over when she was prepped to take on Saix with her bare fists at the drop of a hat.

I'm with you, anon! I definitely think it has faults, but like you I've been here since the beginning and I had a goddamn blast playing it. Laughing? Check. Crying? Check. Swearing at battles/bosses/plot reveals? Check. Gobsmacked by THAT reveal? Double-check.

Also I'm a completely shallow women who admired how many favourites got so gorgeous/handsome in the new engine. (read: most of Org13 new and old)
