Throwing away audience goodwill right before the end is in no way a sound business decision when you have more properties from the same franchise coming down the pipe. Also, the creatives involved would be sabotaging their own careers. From the success of Thrones, D&D got tapped for bonkers stuff like Star Wars, and looking at what Disney did with Trevorrow, shitting the bed creatively is a definite cause for getting the boot.
