It seemed pretty clear to me that Steve replacing the Teseract to where it came from erased that Loki/that action. Because he returned it to before Loki escaped.

wha - how? what? no! even within the - more or less nonexistent - logic of the movie, that makes no sense as an assumption!

so first Tony and Steve go to the 60s, steal the Tesseract, and go back to the future. they smash Thanos, there is much rejoicing, Steve goes back in time to drop the Tesseract back in the 60s... how the fuck does that have any impact on Loki pinching it in 2012 or whatever year that was? at all?

Exactly anon. As I said above, how are people not getting this? Either the film didn't explain its time travel stuff well enough or people hate Loki that much they're clutching at straws to shit on his fans, who have had an entire year already of people being awful to them so let them have this. I really question the logic of filming that escape scene if it was ultimately pointless, especially when we know he's gettin a TV series. You don't even have to watch it if it's not your thing!

Huh? He returned the one from the army base. How could Steve return the one Loki stole? Steve didn't have it.

Steve didn't have the one Loki escaped with. The entire reason he and Tony had to go further back in time to the army base was because they blew their chance to get the tesseract from 2012 because Loki vanished with it, and they had to find another chance earlier in time (and one where they could also get more Pym Particles). So, Steve had to return the tesseract to the army base in 1970 and only the scepter to 2012. Meanwhile, there is a timeline in which 2012-Loki is wandering around with a version of the tesseract.
