Sex scenes written by people who do not know what they're talking about. Also goofy/stupid/cringey sex-related purple prose, like I actually read the phrase "hard as a table lamp" the other day ffs.

LOL, "hard as a table lamp" is a little adorable in a wtf kind of way. Like the author's mind blanked out and they were like, "shit! what's hard? lamps? yeah, lamps are hard! let's go with lamps!" Then again, I once read the phrase "manly meat missile" in an otherwise serious fic, so I feel your pain.

Fanart that doesn't look anything like the the character it's supposed to represent. It's funny because both tumblr types and horny fanboys are guilty of it.

Also "fixing" sexy designs. The recent Persona wank had me exasperated.

The idea that bisexuals in a committed relationship will always be longing for sex with a person of the opposite gender of whoever they're currently with and/or that infidelity with a person of the opposite gender of whoever they're with doesn't really count. Just, no. That's not how it works.

On the less controversial side of things, fanfiction has completely ruined the word cerulean for me.

When characters decide to test how well another character really knows them (or test if the character is actually who they seem to be instead of a doppelganger or shapeshifter in disguise) by asking them a question like "What's my favorite brand of sneakers" and if they answer wrong they fail.

Listen I've known my best friend for at least fifteen years and I don't know her favorite everything. I didn't even know her favorite color until recently when I decided to ask her because I was thinking about this very trope. I don't even know all these things about my family members! I know lots of other details about them, but there's no checklist of things you absolutely are guaranteed to know in order to really know a person.

It doesn't bother me in small doses, but just yesterday I was reading a fic that was /extremely/ heavy handed with its preaching. To the point they included an essay long rant about unfair treatment towards women in a flash back just as reasoning for why a character crossdressed... Like I get it, please, please, calm down.
Their characterization wasn't that bad apart from it, but once they got started they pretty much began listing statistics, and it just completely broke character every time.
It's fine to have a morale to a story, but I did not sign up to be lectured!


Also, when people get intense with their slang, especially when it's regional and not they're writing about as character from that area. I get really peeved when they relocate a character for literally no reason aside from making them easier to write... It's both lazy, and bad writing imo!
