In the books, when he went back to her, it was because he felt like he had to/was supposed to, and he's gradually learning that "actually no, he was a better person elsewhere". Slow character development but GENUINE character development, in an identifiable direction.

In the show, though, he went back to her and immediately raped her and then spent several seasons doing jack shit before faffing off back to the north, so honestly fuck show-Jaime, Brienne deserves so much better than that bullshit.

You know...you're not wrong in your assessment of show Jaime. I wish we'd had anything like the "I can be a better person elsewhere" direction of the books (and that he'd stick to it.)

They didn't intend it to be read as rape,it was a clumsily edited scene. I for one didn't interpret it that way,but I had read the books. IA that he comes across as a jackass and his writing is all over the place

I read the books too and in the books it wasn't rape. It wasn't the editing, it was Cersei saying "no" and "don't" the entire fucking time.

I guess they thought that would be far more tasteful versus having Cersei leave menstrual blood all over the altar.
