I had a teacher that had an artificial eye - her thing when starting a new year with a new class was to 'accidentally' have it pop out on the first day. Quite the introduction.

I had a teacher with an artificial eye and we all hoped she'd do that, but she never indulged us little ghouls. She was a great teacher though.

I'm sorry, OP, I just can't imagine any framework where I'd care about that

There was a time where this popular thing was to have a bowl full of green apples in a shot in movies and tv shows. It became really noticeable and was called out. I think that trend has died down? Maybe the artificial eye thing will too?

I once had a grievance over bendy straws in media, so you do you, OP.

OMG the bowl of apples! Yes! What was with this!?

AYRT I don't know for sure, but I always theorized that it was because a bowl of green apples was aesthetically appealing?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Who has bowls of green apples anyway? Granny Smiths are only good for baking.

My family just bite into them like animals. It's disturbing.

Give me a nice red Fuji or Pink Lady, but never green apples.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Guess I'm an animal, then.
I love tart apples, though I think that liking crabapple jelly when I was younger might have something to do with it.

Same. Mealy red apples are ick but a good, tart Granny Smith? Yes, please.

Try to find an heirloom Red Delicious if you can. They ended up being bred for size and color rather than taste. If you can find an heirloom variety, they're small and tasty, instead of being a purple softball that has the taste and texture of Styrofoam.

Granny Smiths are the only apple!!

(Anonymous) 2019-05-13 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, are artificial eyes not round? I mean, I don't know anyone who actually has one, so I just assumed they were eye shaped?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I have a coworker with an artificial eye. She’s never taken it out at work, but kids ask her about it (she’s an elementary school teacher) and I’ve heard her say that it’s not round like a ball, but kinda curved.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Google suggests they are concave in the back, but maybe not exclusively?

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
So what I'm getting from this thread is that a lot of teachers have artificial eyes.

(Anonymous) 2019-05-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Have you seen the things kids throw? I wouldn't be surprised.
