oh it's absolutely a literary fuck you to atheists. no question. Lewis was writing the heaviest of handed "allegories" so that if you didn't pick up on Jesus Allegory Lion all along well now you know where it's going.

unlike some novels, it's incredibly difficult to divorce any of the literary quality of the Narnia books from the allegory. as christianity becomes increasingly less relevant to society, it's going to become even more painfully obvious and hard to swallow for anyone who isn't already a bible-thumper.
