There's more content dedicated to sons searching for or coming to terms with their wayward fathers than daughters for their mothers too. There's not much media that presents mothers in a neutral light; it's either 'moms are great' or 'moms are terrible', rarely ever 'moms are human with lives outside of their kids'. Fathers are extended that benefit far more often both in fiction and reality.
