Talking to kids on the Internet is just like having a teenager in real life. They think they know everything and they are never wrong, *you* are wrong. There is no "gentle check" here. All that response would prompt is a roll of the eyes over an old person with mortgage.

Yeah, maybe. Or maybe not. Teenagers usually grow out of the not listening to anyone phase, and who knows when they'll get that light bulb moment? If people want to do it, it's not like it costs them a bunch of effort.

True! Except that if you have a teenage kid in real life, you have to be somewhat nice to it even when it's being a brat because it's your kid. With stranger's kids on the internet who are being brats, I have no such responsibility.
