(Anonymous) 2019-05-19 07:06 am (UTC)(link)You're making your argument clearly but all it's doing is making you look like somebody who doesn't create your own anything and therefore thinks it magically appears on the internet for you to enjoy.
WHAT? That's a hell of an assumption. I'm one of tens of thousands of fanfic writers who produce a LOT of content, work very hard at it, and would never charge for it. Never ever. That's not what fanfic is about, or what it's for. It's not even about the original creators for me (although that's also a valid argument) - it's about the way it changes the power dynamic within online fandom. If we ever get to a place where some people can afford to keep up with the WIP everyone's following and others can't, if some people can afford to look at the hot fanart and others can't...then fandom will lose pretty much everything that appeals to me most as a parasocial space.
