What happened in the Maga episode?

Oh geez, where to start. Well, first the show thought it'd be cool to have the guys pulled over while Karamo was driving (in the South, by a white cop) only for it to be a prank. The cop was the guy who nominated his friend, a fellow cop... and Trump supporter. Supposedly this was supposed to start this open exchange about how black people are frequently targeted by police in conflicts that end in their death, gay rights, bigotry, etc. but honestly that did not happen. Maybe they were hoping for some sort of epiphany from the white cop along the lines of, hey, these gay guys (including two brown ones) are awesome and I was wrong to support a political movement that fans the flames of hatred and bigotry.

Nope, didn't happen.

That's really cringey.

The police incident so bad that it almost caused Karamo and Tan to quit the show apparently

I don't blame them. It was really poor judgment on the producers' part to do that.
