There's a guy I work with who looks so much like Li Shang from Mulan. Every time I see him I immediately think, "God he looks so much like the love interest from Mulan!" But I can't tell him, because I'm sure it'll seem like I only think that because I'm white and don't understand that being Chinese doesn't automatically make two people look alike.

i'm just griping about like, the spread of, to use your example, asian women out there that have been told by random overbearing white guys that they toootally look like lucy liu when they dont look anything like her is probably way bigger than anyone thinks

Yeah, I'm sure. I live in Vancouver, I see hundreds of Chinese people a day, and he's the only one I've ever thought looked like Li Shang, lol.

Honestly, I doubt he'd be offended if I told him he looked like Li Shang, but he'd probably roll his eyes internally, like, "White girl over her thinks I look like a Chinese cartoon character she saw when she was ten, because of course she does."

I probably won't say anything to the dude who looks like Li Shang, if only because there isn't really anything constructive to gain by doing it. Like, if I thought it would make his day, I'd definitely tell him, but most likely he'll feel more like, "Ok? Um, cool?" (Though Shang is good looking, so it would be meant as a compliment.)

I get Scarlett Johansson quite a lot. I've also gotten Amy Adams a few times. I disagree with the Amy Adams one, but there's definitely some truth to the ScarJo one.

My brother once told me I looked like a frog when I smiled, so I didn't smile at him for the next decade.

I get it. I'm a pale woman with dark hair.

When I was much, much younger someone told me I looked like the mom in Back to the Future (the young version). I was kind of offended but someone else told me he thought she was totally hot.

Been told I resemble or remind them of: Meryl Streep or Sarah Jessica Parker.

I am immensely proud of that fact.

When my hair is long and its natural brown I got told by two different people I look like Mary Louise Parker. :]
