This just makes me think most of the bashing, of Rowling and of CoG, is only because Depp was cast.

Right, because there was no criticism of JKR at all in the years between her announcement that 'btw Dumbledore is gay jsyk' and the first Fantastic Beasts movie. None at all.

I watched the trailer for The Professor the other day and, appearance-wise, Depp looks pretty good in that! I think styling him to look like the middle-aged guy he is gives a more attractive result than styling him to look either younger or like an evil wizard. There may also be some improvement in sobriety going on.

Nothing would really save this mess of the last film (I run out of patience for the wizarding world somewhere around the Crypt of Pointless Exposion), but ther would definately be a lot more porn and shipping if Depp looked...well, at least like himself ten years ago?
