HORROR STORIES!

What are your favorite locations and environments for horror?

Space. The middle of the ocean. The Arctic or Antarctic. In a deep cave.

Anywhere really isolated that wasn't intended for human habitation.

I enjoy horror that crosses into everyday life too. Those scenes where a character will be in a room full of people and they'll be the only one able to see the creepy thing in a reflection or something.

Mostly in times pre-internet/cellphone/video cameras et cetera because it's tough to explain those away in modern horror.

Or the settings are so pointed in their attempts to avoid those things existing or to explain away why nobody just uses them, that they're set in totally remote circumstances that would never be relevant to the average person.

Yeah, this. I prefer stories set before tech hit the point where most of us can connect to others so easily. It makes for a tenser storyline if I'm not going 'okay, but you're saying no one has a phone?'

I don't have a cell myself, but literally everyone I know has one. If I needed to contact emergency services, it wouldn't be a problem.

Lately I've been digging Daylight Horror. There's something so creepy about monsters attacking in the middle of a typical day instead of at night (like I would usually expect).

Ones that take place in the isolation of ice and snow.
