I neither like or dislike Nia, and I have no problem with people who have valid reasons for their likes and dislikes. But you're coming across as a rabid fan here. Her eyes and hair and "zomg Mary Sue even though the author created her" are not really well put reasons to feel so strongly against a character. If you can't come up with something more articulate, such as "I really can't relate to characters who are naive" or "I prefer female characters who go into battle." I would just keep this yourself. Because most fandoms WILL react badly to rabids.

I don't understand fans who claim certain characters as being Mary Sues, but then bash them for their obvious flaws. If a character is imperfect enough to have such drawbacks, wouldn't that make them rather un-Sueish? It just seems to me that some people like to take their subjective dislikes, and try to portray them as objective ones that others must agree with or they're wrong.

"This character rubs me the wrong way" becomes "this character is poorly written".

People like to misuse fandom terms these days. "I don't like her, so she must be a mary sue. This will make me sound like I know what I'm talking about." <-- That's the vibe I get often enough.

You totally said it. It is a pet peeve of mine when people throw around the term Mary Sue. By the definition I was always exposed to, a MS 1) is an ORIGINAL character and 2) Is absolutely perfect in every way so that the main character will love her. ANY character created by the author is automatically NOT a Mary Sue! It's missing the complete point of what a Mary Sue is. If they have qualities of 2, you can call them a poorly written character, but I've almost NEVER seen this among canon characters called Sue's.

Just as you said "This character rubs me the wrong way" =/= "This character is poorly written."
