Politics in fandom is so sad. Come on, who cares anyway who you're going to vote for or not or whatever? You've got to be pretty stuck up, elitist, boring, obsessive and somewhat pathetic if you're going to let politics leak into your fandom in a major way. Sheesh. Get over yourselves already. Fandom is about fun, not politics.

Unless politics is your fandom. Whatever floats your boat.

lol, you can seriously classify yaoi fans by political viewpoint? I probably wouldn't even recognise one if they came and danced in front of me waving a banner at me. I don't get the whole politics in fandom either! Doesn't help that it's American politics most of the time!

The ones I've seen tend to justify it pretty much the same way rapefic fans or incest fans justify their fic preferences: "Just because I enjoy reading about it doesn't mean I think it's okay in real life." Besides, fictional characters don't have souls that will burn in hell forever if they have teh buttsex, so...

Oh, I'm one!

Personally, I'm a Republican because every side of the issues which Republicans tend to support, I also agree with.

Gay marriage is the one thing that's hard for me to decide on. I'm actually for civil unions, and I see nothing wrong with gay life styles. But when it comes to the Church, which doesn't SUPPORT them, it'll be just as bad for gays to force their lifestyles on the Church as the Church forcing their beliefs on the gays. I'd prefer they leave each other alone to be honest. If you're gay, live your own life. If you're a strict Church-goer, live your own life, too.

I'm actually a fan of yuri, as well, and it's not necessarily the porn. I just think two human beings can have a romantic relationship with each other no matter what their genders are.

Civil unions don't have all the benefits of marriage, but not all marriage ceremonies have to be held in a church. Are you pro-secular marriage?

Only, thanks to separation of church and state, that's a complete non-issue.

Unless the government plans on forcing individual churches to perform gay marriage ceremonies against their will (which isn't going to happen, and which no one is lobbying for), gays aren't forcing anything on anyone. Churches will still be able to do their own thing and discriminate as much as they like, and gay couples will have legal secular marriages with all the benefits available to heterosexual couples.

The important thing is not that everybody has to love gays, but that gays have equal rights and protections under the law. Religion has nothing to do with it.

Agreed.. but at least fighting over ships, etc actually kind of has something to do with fandom, well, more so than politics would have in most cases.
