Well I am first going to say that I don't agree that Tamora Pierce is all that good.

Also I think that the poster is picking entirely on a genre. Have they actually looked at a YA section recently? What about John Green? What about The Book Thief? These aren't good? Or 'they don't count as YA literature' for some reason.

Cassandra Clare fails, we all know that. But I would disagree that Gossip Girl is really all that bad, or Luxe--they are fun and to a certain extent that is all that matters. Its part of the reason that I lay off Twilight most of the time...though Breaking Dawn was kinda fugging awful.

Also Joyce Carol Oates' YA lit? Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson?

(Also, if she's ranting about YA, I wonder why the poster neglected to include Harry Potter in the poorly written category...hmmmm I smell bias).

I would exclude Joyce Carol Oates from this list although her YA is not on the level of her other writing. I've never read Speak because I am sick of the plots where rape is made the sole character-and-plot-defining event for a female character-driven story.

I didn't include HP because Twilight vs HP is a wank for another day. (Not to mention that when Twilight gets anti-recced with "read (this novel) instead" it never says "read Harry Potter instead.") But since you asked me - Harry Potter has nice world building but fails in a lot of aspects. I wouldn't put it in the same category of fail as Cassandra Clare and Stephenie Meyer but I don't think it's a literary success either.

The only Meg Cabot I liked was her Mediator series which was heavily ripped off from Buffy. (Quippy girl in a new school in California, set upon the hellmouth, older mentor figure, older love interest of the kind of superatural variety girl is supposed to fight against, hacker friend/brother yadda yadda yadda.) And that was the Meg Cabot series I liked.

My knowledge of YA is not all-encompassing by any means but Sturgeon's Law is rock solid in this genre. For every Joyce Carol Oates you got 99 Eragons.
