Lol I commented something like that once somewhere and got totally dogpiled about how FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO JUST DROP BY AND YOU'RE HORRIBLE AND RUDE IF YOU THINK IT'S RUDE OR DON'T ANSWER THE DOOR!!

It was ridiculous and hilarious all at the same time. Like, I love my family to death, but I wouldn't drop in on them unannounced, and they would never do it to me. It's fucking rude and it assumes that the person you're dropping in on has no plans and can just accommodate your rude ass randomly showing up.

That's a really common viewpoint but I find it so self-centered... what people are basically saying is that they think they're so amazing everyone should be happy to see them any time, for any reason.

Same here. My social anxiety is pretty terrible so I need to kind of mentally 'prepare' for interacting with people most days, and people showing up randomly puts me on edge, even if they're people I like. And in an age where basically everyone has a mobile, there's not really an excuse for it. My dad and me are super close but we both know to call ahead. Obviously if it's an emergency, then fine, but otherwise, it takes two seconds to text/call.
