That does sound creepy. Except I'm not sure the problem with the last part? If that was possible (and as equally medically safe as abortion), why not?

AYRT—if I were raped, I would want the fetus aborted, not brought to term and adopted by someone else, or SPOILERS

given to my rapist to raise as his child. One victim’s trauma is dealt with in one of Bujold’s books, but eventually she’s reconciled to her child’s existence after killing her rapist, but at first she can’t even look at her child. I doubt I’d ever even get that far.

because what are you going to do with it? whose baby is it? who's responsible for claiming it and raising it? does it just get shoved into an orphanage, does the rapist have any claim on it, what? is this a worldbuild where people are desperate to adopt abandoned babies or would it just contribute to overpopulation? there's a shitload of ethical conundrums that are not solved by simply allowing a fetus to come to term, and in fact probably made a lot worse by it.

If OP is talking about Shards of Honor, the fetuses were set up in artificial wombs and then delivered to the army that employed the offending men.

Sort of a, this time *you* have to take care of the mess.

Which is *an* answer to the problem of what to do with the children, but I don't personally feel that I'd be okay with a kid that was half mine raised by a rapist.

(In the book they got lucky - the military administration had changed, and the kids were raised in a much nicer situation than what had engendered them. But it's a situation where there isn't any *right* answer, so.)
