Oh lord, yes it's awful. I've seen it not only coming from women but from men as well (men who happen to be either homophobic, ship a straight couple and get angry because the slash pairing gets in the way or is more popular than the pairing the ship or something else).

The trend of fandom policing has been a thing since forever but Imo it really has gotten out of control as of late. Maybe because it has become a trend in fandom? Maybe because it has become more acceptable to police what others like?

Although the comments up there had me thinking about a lot of things about fetishization (not only of gay people but people in general) and sexuality. But that will be a meta essay for another day.
