Blind Guardian's entire Nightfall in Middle-Earth album was what got me into metal music.

It was hearing Just Like Heaven by the Cure and Bizarre Love Triangle/True Faith that got me into New Order (both back in '87-'88) and then my whole New Wave/Alternative love started from there and it's been a lifelong thing since then.

Hank Williams' "Ramblin Man," though admittedly I still don't know a lot about country.

You know, I don't think I've ever gotten into a genre in my life. I just hear a song and like it, or hear a song and don't. Sometimes if I like a song a lot I'll check out more music by that artist. But I've never once thought to myself, "What genre is this? I should check out more music in this genre."

I wasn't keen on "cookie monster" vocals, but then In Flames released their album "A sense of purpose". "Mirror's truth" and "Delight & anger" were the true gateway tracks.
