It didn't even make any sense! Why would a gay pool boy lie about having an affair with a woman accused of murder? What possible motive could he have had to lie instead of just going, "I had nothing to do with anything or anyone and saw nothing"? Because he didn't see anything and he wasn't involved at all. He literally exists, and randomly lies, solely for this side plot where stereotypes are true.
