Re: What is some media that other people (and critics) love...

I know I must be a part of an absurd minority by now, but I've never really bothered with the Game of Thrones series.

Why? I picked it up at the local book store and read a few paragraphs of the first book, at random. I decided it was too casually violent and rapey for my tastes. Kind of like the lead in the water fueled fall of ancient Rome in multi volume fantasy novel format.

Of course, I have read some weirder stuff, like Michael Moorcock (time travel with incest, lots of sorcery gore), Philip José Farmer (bizarre kinks made into societal norms), Edgar Rice Burroughs (a really bizarre product of his time if there ever was one)...

...so I have very little idea what made me not bother with GoT.

Maybe I am finicky.

I haven't seen or read GOT, either. In my case, it's mainly because I just don't really follow that kind of fantasy fiction (not knocking that genre or anything, it's just not one I'm well-versed in), and if I were to check out the show and read the books (which I would do, because I'd like to be able to compare/contrast), it'd just take a lot of time I don't really have.
