Not sure that's 100% true, but it depends on what degree someone decides not to conform to gender roles and where they are. I'm in the U.S. and there are definitely parts of this country where people WILL bat an eye if someone who's biologically female and whose paperwork says they're biologically female shows up to a job interview with a short, "boyish" haircut and a tailored suit and tie. They won't think "Oh, a non-gender confirming individual" they'll think "lesbian alert". That may or may not go over well, depending on where they are, sadly.
