It's a western US thing. I've never seen them on the east coast or here in the Midwest, but they're in California and elsewhere.

It's the same company that runs Acme, Jewel Osco, Shaw's, and a handful of other smaller chains so you might know those. The way the American grocery industry mostly works is that conglomerates buy local chains but often keep the original names of the chains in place for customer loyalty and stuff.
