Show me this proof she wanted to continue. Everything I have seen says she doesn't like it.

This is the interview that was incorrectly headlined in the media with click-bait titles that helped push the narrative that NP was "done" with Marvel: “As far as I know, I’m done,” she told the newspaper. “I mean, I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an Avengers 7 or whatever, I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done, but it was a great thing to be a part of.” (https://ew.com/article/2016/08/17/natalie-portman-done-marvel-thor-movies/)

Saying she would be up for filming another Thor movie in 2016 (https://www.slashfilm.com/natalie-portman-in-future-marvel-movies/)

That first article I linked? That narrative continued on for years and helped fuel rumours that NP was reluctant to work on Thor 2. True or not, it was wildly exaggerated either way: Portman is freer to discuss her big-ticket role in this month's Thor: The Dark World, a sequel to the hit 2011 superhero movie about the Norse god of thunder (portrayed by Chris Hemsworth). In both movies, Portman plays the gamine scientist who tames Thor's heart. The sequel was developed amid reports that Portman was reluctant to make a second go of it. "No," she says flatly. "Chris is, like, one of the greatest people in Hollywood. He's the kind of actor who's so charismatic, he must be tired when he goes home." (https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/a8330/natalie-portman-feature/)

During a Thor 2 press tour, she was asked if she had been asked for Avengers 2 (video at the source): “No, no. Tell them. Tell the Marvel guys.” When asked if she would be game? “Sure, I love these movies.” (http://collider.com/natalie-portman-thor-dark-world-interview/)

Did she really want to come back? That was all I ever heard, but I never ever understood the hate for that character.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
She did, I linked a few sources here: https://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/2025292.html?thread=1022513484#cmt1022513484

I'd also like a link to where she says she wants to continue playing this character. My impression was that she wasn't into it... and that seemed to be reflected in her performance. Didn't she threaten to quit at one point because of a director change?

Iirc Natalie was upset when Patty Jenkins was let go from The Dark World as she personally had a hand in getting Patty on board and the film then got completely Creative Committee-ed to fuck, hence it ended up being all over the place.

But I will say that I am a little irritated how Jane is listed as a "bad" aspect of the previous Thor films. I'm actually not here in general for how prevalent the "Thor sucked until Ragnarok/Taika came along and saved it!" attitude it. It really pisses me off actually because overall I prefer the first two Thors sorry, not sorry. Jane was ok in the first one and wasted in TDW. I actually wish I could peer into a universe where she was utilised better in that film (geeking out over space and science!) and beyond...and also where she gets more screen time with Loki cos honestly I found their brief interactions quite interesting.

Oh my god there's two of us! I really disliked Ragnarok.

I don't hate it but there's a lot about it where I feel it didn't change stuff for the better and there are so many squandered chances with the overall plot of the Thor side of the universe.

And I'm kinda over Chris Hemsworth apparently seeing actually acting as a chore, it feels like he just wants to goof off rather than be Thor.

I like all three Thor movies. They are different but all good to me.

I like your view. There are elements of all three I like.

Natalie being upset about Patty was an overblown rumour.

OK, I stand corrected then. Thank you!

I don't like Ragnarok much either. Really sick of the fandom saying Taika "fixed" Thor as if Ragnarok gets any deeper into themes that were already established in the previous movies. And I'm bitter that no one gave a fuck about Jane and the Warriors Three anymore.

Honestly I think Ragnarok is thematically the shallowest of the three as it wouldn't exist without the established elements of the previous two. There's actually not much of a plot either when you think about it.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There really isn't. It's a fun romp but...not much else.

Ragnarok is the only Thor movie I like, but it has nothing to do with Jane being absent. I liked Jane/Natalie.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-07 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked the character and felt Jane was under-utilized and that Portman didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about the role... not that I blame her, because it didn't meet its potential, IMO. But I'm curious... if she's so eager to keep playing Jane, why do you think the MCU has all but written her out?

(Anonymous) 2019-06-07 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad she's gone. Her character was so boring and her romance with Thor was insufferable.

Fae, Faith, Faye, Felicity, Felina, Fiona, Fleda, Fleur, Flora, Florrie, Francesca, Freya, Frida, Frieda

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this about sums it up. I don't think it's NP's fault that Jane was a boring character, or that her romance with Thor felt obligatory and by the numbers, but all the same. The first two Thor movies were far from great, but IMO the Obligatory Het Romance #96782305 was the worst part of both of them.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I always felt like the actress who played Darcy should have been swapped with Portman. She was obviously into the role, and had more charisma in the few scenes she was in.

I liked Jane a lot. I liked having a smart, dedicated scientist who was a woman, and who did the same stuff Tony did, like forgetting to eat or wearing ratty clothes. They didn't 'glam' her up.

And yes - Bruce wasn't the guy to be in on all that, but hey - gotta keep the core characters (which Jane totally was so wtf bring on Jane!!).

:D

(Anonymous) 2019-06-08 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Jane, especially in the second movie. If I'm honest, she is (together with Pepper and Peggy) the love interest that makes the most sense to me and doesn't seem shoehorned in.
