John's wife being the actor's real wife. It was too distracting. She's a great actress, but... I feel the same about Sherlock's parents.

AtLA casting was a mess besides Aang.

if you're talking about the live action ATLA, the casting was awful and I didn't even think the kid who played Aang was good.

Seconding John's wife and Sherlock's parents so hard. A) I dearly wish shows would stick to casting actors based on their demonstrated ability to play the role, and B) I personally find the whole "lol it's cool because she's his real wife" type of casting jarring and annoying in a fourth-wall-breaking kind of way. Like, it doesn't quite break the fourth wall, but it constantly teases at breaking it, which for me is somehow even worse. Ugh.

That must be it, the fourth wall.
And you can never critisise the acting because you get a "what do you mean, they're family irl, of course they seem like a family on screen".
