122. What I find fascinating is that there are so many people who don't get that the scene was MEANT to be disturbing. Why else would you add eerie, strange, creepy sound effects and these fast cuts to a sex scene? I've seen a lot of reactions from people who think the creepy nature of the scene was unintended (and this gives the fans a new opportunity to curse and whine and complain about the show's creators being stupid... yay, Heroes fandom). But you don't just accidently add weird... insect-noises to a sex scene, do you. XD
I ship these two and I find them both very hot and so on, but the way this scene went, it was too uncomfortable to be considered "hot". I don't really know anybody who thinks it's just simply hot, though. Then again, I'm not looking at the fandom's reactions anymore. I don't want to let the inevitable negativity ruin my fun this time.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, right, but what made you think she's a virgin? Or are you just desperately searching for a way to bash her, and this was all you could come up with? :(

(Anonymous) 2008-09-28 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
...OK, even though I´m slightly mad at myself that I spoiled myself reading this secret(the next season will not air where I live until next year), that sex scene sounds...really freaky <_< Oh, Heroes athours, where in the world are you going with this?

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You should not read Fandomsecrets if you want to stay unspoiled for a year for one of the biggest American TV shows...

[identity profile] notcrazy-honest.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I found it hot, but partially BECAUSE it's so fucked up. But I know I'm weird. And I also know that it was meant to be disturbing. Since when does Mohinder act like that? They even made a point of showing how awkward he was even about touching Maya before he injected himself.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The overall context keeps me from fully enjoying the hotness. Knowing throughout that Mohinder is not himself and will probably soon realize that the serum was a mistake, that can spoil the hotness. :3

I do understand the concept of finding fucked-up relationships hot, but... hmm... it's hard, maybe I am too protective of both Mohinder and Maya. :S

[identity profile] notcrazy-honest.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, believe me, I totally understand where you're coming from! I think people are meant to feel that way- or if they don't know what's going to happen, at least ominous. I just like fucked up things, which...eheh, can mean badness happening to my favorite characters. >_>;

Either way, I hope Mohinder is able to stop what's happening to him soon, poor guy. :P

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-28 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he was very freaked out, my poor baby. Your icon is SCARY now. D:

I am a wuss, an utter wuss. I enjoy bad things happening to my favourite characters, but only when I am certain they will make it out safe and sound. I think I need a safe word. XD

[identity profile] notcrazy-honest.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Aahaha, that was totally my Sylar icon, but I guess it applies to him now, too. Poor guy.

I only worry when characters get offed- and then, not so much, even, 'cause at least Heroes does it in really cool ways. but...man, I'd be devastated if they offed Mohinder- so I'm living firmly in the land of rational argument, and stating that he is the observer character, and the guy in the middle of everything, and they can't get rid of him, right? Plus, Sendhil is too pretty. ....yeah, that's an argument. >_>

I am trying to prepare myself for Sylar not making it out of this season- I think I'll be okay with that one, but we'll see. :P I mean, he's the villain, right? ;-)

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Even if the scene was meant to be creepy and disturbing, as a Maya fan I found it ludicrous bordering on offensive that they had her throwing herself at another man just days after the whole fiasco with Sylar. Sex and romance should have been the absolute last thing on her mind. There was no mention of the fact that her twin brother was just murdered. She didn't seem to be in mourning at all. She didn't appear to stop and think, "Hey, maybe I should take it slow with this guy, given that I was just betrayed and shot by the last man who appeared to have a thing for me." It just seemed so wildly out of character, especially given that she looked so uncomfortable around Mohinder in earlier scenes. I came away feeling thoroughly disgusted that the writers apparently care more about throwing in some hot sex than about believable characterization.

[identity profile] ryuutchi.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
She wasn't throwing herself at him. He grabbed her and kissed her, and she's in a really vulnerable place. At least, that's how I read it.

[identity profile] alenxa.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I've had about enough of everybody wanting her to be moping and weepy all the time. Mainly because I'm 100% certain that that if she was, they'd all be "Cowgirl up, we've seen enough of this whiny bullshit."

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I must have missed the part where making a mention or two of the dead brother equals "moping and weepy all the time." There is a happy medium, you know.

[identity profile] alenxa.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but then it gets labeled an "As you know, Bob."

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Last season, all people complained about was "Maya is too whiny and weepy!" And now it's "She should mourn more!"

A number of characters on Heroes are shown dealing with their losses in ways that may not be completely realistic, but more fun to watch. Mohinder's immediate reaction when he learned of his father's death was to travel to New York, only a week later did he get to cry. Peter recovered from Simone's death pretty fast, too, and then never spoke about her again. OK, I've no idea whether such behaviour is realistic or not. It does not strike me as extraordinary or BAD that Maya would try not to think and talk about her brother too much. Especially with other problems or issues at hand.

And the awkwardness both Mohinder and Maya displayed when he touched her arm, that seemed to indicate more that they both considered each other attractive, just thinking that now's not the time and place and it's too fast to acknowledge these feelings. That was my impression.

I cannot really blame Maya for giving in to serum!Mohinder, either. It was quite a surreal situation, I have no idea what I would have done in her place, but I might have been swept away as well, especially if that's a guy I find attractive and my only ally in the world, and I'm in a very weird and scary situation to begin with. Hmm.
But yeah, stop saying "she is throwing herself at him!!" Stop accusing Maya of stuff like that. Mohinder made the first move. Period.

And the rest, I judge when I see how it plays out.

Last season, all people complained about was "Maya is too whiny and weepy!" And now it's "She should mourn more!"

For me, the problem is that both versions were done poorly, by the actress in S2 (her over-the-top, scene-chewing performances were painful to watch), and by the writers in the new eps (for all the reasons people have already pointed out -- inconsistent storyline and characterization, etc.)

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's very interesting. I care a lot about what you think!

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
lol That comment is kind of hilarious coming after the big old essay you just wrote about your thoughts on the subject.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, I know. I just dislike such "whatever, the actress sucked and now the writing sucks" comments. If you are the person I was replying to, I realize that my "big old essay" was indeed wasted on you.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I was just trying to suggest one reason that this: Last season, all people complained about was "Maya is too whiny and weepy!" And now it's "She should mourn more!" is happening, and that it's not necessarily a contradiction. I thought it was an open discussion...my bad.

[identity profile] weaselistic.livejournal.com 2008-09-29 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I simply don't think that it's automatically bad writing to have Maya NOT talk about her dead brother all the time. Some people deal differently with grief. Just brushing it off with "bad writing!" without saying why you find it so impossible, that doesn't seem like you are interested in a discussion, you're just interested in venting your anger. And you can please do that in your own LJ or whereever, but not at me. I am open for discussions, but discussing means that you don't just make a claim, you also back it up and explain, and consider what the other discussion partners said.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Anger? I'm not heavily into 'Heroes' at all, and even if I was, it takes a lot more than a TV show to make me angry, so...no venting here. I should maybe mention that the anonymous comment at the top of this thread wasn't me, though I don't see any anger in that person's comment either.

No one's saying that Maya needs to talk about her dead brother all the time...a brief mention to keep the characterization consistent would have sufficed. The writers made similar mistakes with almost every character and storyline -- I only mentioned it as it pertains to Maya because that was specifically what was being discussed here.

(Anonymous) 2008-09-29 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Last season, all people complained about was "Maya is too whiny and weepy!" And now it's "She should mourn more!"

*sigh* For starters, I'm not one of those people who complained about her being "too whiny and weepy." As I said, I'm a Maya fan, not a hater. I thought it was perfectly reasonable for her to be upset and weepy last season given that, y'know, she was accidentally murdering hundreds of people and had no idea how to stop it. Second, I'm also not saying that she should be spending every second of her screentime paralyzed with grief over Alejandro's death. I am saying--like the other anon mentioned--that a word or two about it, or some slight show of melancholy, or something would have been nice. Of course, all people deal with loss differently, so maybe we can chalk it up to that...but given that she has been firmly established to be such an emotional person, it seemed odd/inconsistent that she didn't seem to be having any difficulty in dealing at all.

But really, the more important issue to me is her rebounding so quickly after Sylar. To me, it looks like she hasn't learned anything from her mistakes from last season. Last season, she met an attractive guy, fell for him even though she barely knew him, and he turned out to be a first-class scumbag who used her and betrayed her. This season, she's just repeating herself: she met an attractive guy, and appears to be falling for him even though she barely knows him. And if the hints about future episodes are any indication, it looks like it's going to get her in trouble. Again. Given that there were so many complaints last season about her being "gullible" and "stupid" and whatnot, I just think it would have made way more sense if they had portrayed her as having learned from the Sylar situation by being more cautious and taking things slowly around strange men.
