I get yelled at on this list every time I call her a Mary Sue, and get accused of "overusing the term."

WTF?

Yes, she's an awful, awful, awful Mary Sue and I'm scared to death of what will happen to the series now because Moffat has called her as "his favorite character" that he ever created. Seriously. Very. Very. Afraid.

A lot of people hated Donna when she first appeared so if he brings River back then I hope he'll redeem himself and give her the Donna treatment.

I think they did, though, because they thought Donna was obnoxious. Not a Sue.

I swear, this is the only character in New Who that I'm supposed to like and I don't. (there are a few in old who, but I haven't seen all that yet...)

He really said that? Oh god, I'm even more scared of S5 now.

Yes he really, truly said that in an interview.

Frankly I'd rather they bring back Jenny at this point. I utterly loathe her character but I'd sooner her than River Mary Sue Song "I supposedly am the Doctor's wife".

Someone below said it best...You can't throw these characters at us and tell us they're the most important ones EVAR without them earning it. I object to Jenny a little less than River Song because Jenny at least tried to gain some approval. Like a real character. RS just makes me ill. I know they were trying to play with the "Things don't happen to me in order" idea, but for such a major character like a wife, that was a terrible way to introduce her. I might have liked her if we'd had a nice buildup, like all the other companions. Now I probably never will.

If I was able to pick someone for s5, it'd probably be Sally Sparrow because I liked her. I wound up liking Jenny more than I thought I would, but her? No.

I spend some time trying to make epileptic trees revealing she's really a bad guy in disguise and the Doctor didn't hear his real name and just said he did and... oh, I'll stop now.

You are not alone. I still maintain that RS is a con artist who stole his diary and screwdriver and fed him a load of bull. Either that or she's really the Rani (who went to school with him and probably knew his real name).

I don't want either, believe me. The fact that they're talking about bringing either of them back is a wretched concept to me. But if I had to choose....

you totally made me realize that all of moffat's episodes have mary sues (even in his brilliant "are you my mummy?" arc he introduced jack)...

and now he's taking over?

I completely agree with you on that. I'm dreading S5 with Moffat at the helm.
It would be even worse if RS came back.

my head is already aching :o in fact all of the episodes he's done have just left me with a massive brainache. it wouldn't be so bad if he didn't attach so much SIGNIFICANCE to the random characters (like i thought he did a good job with blink), but his others, RS definitely included, have just been, "hi the doctor loves me you have to love me too!"

in fact my head really started aching when she knew the doctor's name. BLASPHEMY, MOFFAT!

(and plus whenever i see his name on the credits it reminds me of muffins and makes me hungry. i don't want to be hungry for a whole season :o )

I said the same thing! Went through all his New Who episodes, and all of his characters - cool as they are - are arguably Sues. Every one. Especially the women - the lead female character always gets ignored in favour of Moffat's.

A friend of mine and I discussed this and proposed that maybe if he's the one to write the lead and has time to develop her (because people are crazy if they think Moffat's gonna give the Doctor a male companion), she'll be okay.

oh yeah... i'd forgotten that he usually only writes for one or two episodes, so at least this way he'll be able to play around more with the characters. haha... and that's very true... if RTD didn't give the doctor a male companion (and jack and mickey don't necessarily count) moffat definitely will not.

Shit, do we have to take out a hit on Moffat now? :C
