E3!!! Upcoming games

(Anonymous) 2019-06-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Who's excited? Breath of the Wild sequel is topping my list. I want to be excited for the FFVII remake but I'm too worried about Nomura fucking it up... it looks pretty, though!

The writer is Kazushige Nojima, the original goddamn writer for FF7. Why do people think Nomura is the sole person who's going to fuck it up if it fails? That's on the scenario writer.

People keep parroting it's Nomura who is writing FF7, which has confused me so much since Nojima is the writer. IDK. I can't see how they can really fuck this up considering the script for FF7 is already an established thing.

But the compilcation!!1!!!!1!1!1!1!

The compilation was also written by fucking Nojima, you idiots. All of the stuff you hate was the guy who wrote the original decided to expand on stuff. Like, with the exception of Dirge of Cerberus (also not Nomura! It was Hiroki Chiba!), Final Fantasy 7 has been regularly written by Nojima. I think the guy who wrote the characters originally is allowed to decide what's IC for them or not (and tbh I always found Aerith still sassy in Advent Children where she needed to be, she just had terrible VA work).

Yeah people bitched about Aerith in Advent Children and like I get the whole "now she's Jesus" complaint but I thought that was at least semi-implied in the original game. Last of her kind, wields a strange power, can talk to her ancestors, etc. She didn't have many scenes for me to be annoyed at it. The one notable scene she did have in AC, she was prodding and teasing Cloud to get out of his own head too.

But then I'm one of those freaks who doesn't think AC was absolutely terrible, just kind of dull.

Complete is better, IMO, but yeah, she does still have her playful and sassy side. She just had TERRIBLE FUCKING VA WORK and I'm so glad they dumped the VA.

Oh yeah I forgot about Complete. I never bought that one, but when I did get to watch it, it did make the movie flow better.

In any case, I'm tentatively excited. I just want new shiny graphics to make new shiny GIFs of so I'll admit to being horribly shallow.

I'm actually super happy about the remake so far! The combat looks like a fun mash up between Crisis Core and FFXIII which I can handle. I was worried it'd be more like the trashfire that was FFXII. And both Tifa and Aerith look so, so good ahhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'm also pumped for the remaster of VIII; was not expecting that!

The more I see of 7R the more I don't want it. I hate that "help me!!" wail from Aerith before suddenly clinging to Cloud. I hate that they have no idea how many parts the damn thing is going to be but by god they're gonna charge full for each one, and the first episode is literally just Midgar. I hate that they purported that this was a "more loyal" translation but Barret is still fuckin Mr. T instead of the fairly well-spoken, slightly gruff but deeply caring big brother type. I hate that they're trotting Cloud the Puppy-Dog out this early in. He's actually pretty fucking cold throughout the Midgar section. I really hate the implication that Cloud's inner voice is Sephiroth and not just. His real self.

It's so clearly retconning to better fit it in to the rest of the stupid Compilation and it's everything that I was really afraid of it doing.

Have you fucking played the clusterfuck of a plot FF7 is recently, or do you just have rose-tinted glasses? Also literally all but Dirge of Cerberus was written by the same fucking guy, who is also writing the remake.

nayrt but bullshit. FF7's plot wasn't a clusterfuck. And in what world does the same writer mean all installments have the same quality? Plus, you seem really misinformed that the writer is simply locked in a room and allowed to write the entire script freely without interference without any direction from the, you know, director...

DA

FF7's plot wasn't a clusterfuck.

IA but the PS version had a bad translation. That created some confusion.

Bullshit, it was a clusterfuck of conflicting plotlines it couldn't decide on telling and basically a ridiculous mess and that's what I love about it.

Agreed. Aeris's intro is now a "Help me!" wail, ugh. Welp, here's to Aeris's long deceased personality.

I'm weak for anything sci fi so Cyberpunk 2077 is a given!

Way to the Woods is also my jam, patiently following that one awhile. Let me play it!!

Deathloop I am tentatively cautious. I've really enjoyed Dishonored, so hopefully this I would also like. I really like the idea of two ppl stuck in a loop on opposite sides. Plus nice music.
