Not NECESSARILY. Simmons HAS had a good 14 months or so to get used to taking orders from Grif. And, technically, with Sarge being AWOL and such, Grif IS his RIGHTFUL superior.

but simmons is also operating under the idea that red command ordered sarge to get the blood gulch reds back together, putting sarge in command of the mission, despite that sarge and grif are the same rank.

But wouldn't Simmons' confidence in Sarge be shaken? Afterall, Sarge wouldn't leave Blood Gulch, and that's why Grif got promoted. So, technically, Sarge has been disgraced, kinda forgotten about since he refused to leave. Also, I think Simmons is smarter than that, to realized that whatever orders Sarge had were pretty bogus, especially after fighting the Meta.

lest we forget, simmons loves to live under the delusion that sarge either cares for him, or that someday sarge will care for him. i imagine that he would just be way too glad to have sarge back and to no longer be completely under grif's thumb (because we all know grif totally abused his power) that he wouldn't care too much about sarge gone awol or that the orders are bogus.

besides, it's not like sarge's batshit crazy has ever stopped simmons from idolizing him before.

Counterpoint: Season 5, "Sometimes I'm amazed our entire platoon hasn't starved to death." Also, Sarge's burial in general, really.

True! I'd forgotten about that one! But that's when Simmons thinks he's up for a promotion, so of course he's bury Sarge.

good point.

but for sarge's burial, it gave simmons an opportunity to seize power for himself, without doing any of the dirty work. if it wasn't for that, simmons would be happy to follow at sarge's heels for forever, i imagine.

which probably makes grif's promotion that much harder for simmons. something would have to happen to both of them before he was in charge.

i might be arguing the wrong point here though... season five hasn't gotten as many watches as the others. also, i can't pin the context of that quote :/

Well, the "Just wait 'til you hear about my upcoming assassination attempt!" in episode 92, along with the Season 5 character profile for Simmons, implies that the murder attempts continued.

He was studying out of a textbook before an exam and got quite easily distracted by his surroundings, I think. And that's the only indication of bookishness there is in canon and it's not exactly the same kind of bookish that fanon often describes him as being. Studying for an exam is hardly the same as reading great works of fiction. Just my opinion though.
