I don't think you realize that they aren't going for completely original with this. They do their research and do things based off REAL mythology and Legends. and Angels ARE like that according to Myth and Legend.

Which myths and legends? Which version of angels? Zoroastrian or Jewish? Islamic? Or just Christian? Cause personally, the only thing I've ever seen that got angels right was Evangelion, which everyone hates.

Probably a little more on the Christian side, though a lot of it is very similar... Many religions had some version of Angels in them, even Norse and Egyptian...

Evangelion was pretty good, I don't think Angels are THAT mindless though considering Lucifer and Nephylim... Which was SUCH a mess.

Well, Eva was based off of Jewish mythology. Even in Jewish mythology there were angels that defied God but they ceased to be angels pretty much, and really, God doesn't come off as being too omniscient/omnipotent if the beings he created to be his messengers start doing whatever they want.

I don't remember how the Jews handle Lucifer but it's clear that Lucifer and Satan are not the same person, Christians later conflated the two. As for the Nephilim, we all know what happened to them.

It's been two years since I've touched theology so I'm really rusty. In any case I always hated movies and tv shows about angels where they have very individualistic personalities because that just doesn't fit in with what I believe about angels. I really do see them more like monsters as they're portrayed in Eva.
