Don't you feel special? Of course you do. You obviously don't write fanfiction. That just makes you a little princess, doesn't it?
I'm sure a hundred people have already reamed you (and chances are you're a troll), but I just need to say that consequence is where you find it. If you're going to start ranking things, why read a novel when you could be reading the newspaper? Or for that matter, why fingerpaint when you can do an oil painting?
Creative writing is something that has to be done from the heart, and not everyone's heart is in non-fanfiction works. It's fun. If an author doesn't have their heart in the work, it shows, which is why any creative writing professional will tell you to write what you love. Because even if it's been done a hundred times by other people, or even if it's so experimental it's off the wall and bouncing through the ceiling, it'll be your heart going into it.
Who are you to say what someone else should do with their talents? How dare you try to tell people that the direction their heart is taking them is somehow wrong or inferior. Fanfic isn't the same as original fic, because the creative goals are completely different. (Interpretive and transformative as opposed to "building from scratch".) That doesn't make it less valid—only different. The end-goal (satisfying and somehow touching the reader) are all the same though.
For me, the "hard shit" is making someone buy this version of a character, or that twist on a known universe. Orginal characters are easy. I have all the control, so if I need someone with a fetish for forks I can damn well put in backstory to explain it. In fanfic, I either have to create a character (which is interestingly not a different process) or manipulate a character that already exists in a way that other people will buy, and those people already know the character in question and who will throw things if you get it wrong.
I feel sorry for you. Obviously you've never put your heart into something, or you'd know how damn painful it is when other people brush it off. If you ever do something creative, I hope no one's ever as cold about your work as you are about fanfic.
