(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 02:09 am (UTC)(link)You can't rely on other people to policy your media for you, and it seems like you made the responsible choice to leave tumblr, because frankly its UI is terrible for people who want a carefully controlled experience. But if people wanted a love-only tag...."[#character X] love" is a lot easier for fans to implement than trying to get other people to change their behavior for the convenience of strangers.
That doesn't give anyone a self-righteous excuse to be an asshole, tho, so of course it didn't catch on. Not saying you personally are an asshole, but there sure were plenty of people in the "don't tag your hate" debate that went on to be antis when a newer shinier righteous-er reason to harass people came along.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 02:24 am (UTC)(link)The reality is that Tumblr is not designed in a way that makes separating things out like this remotely practical. And this is not an incidental design flaw; it's fundamental to what makes Tumblr successful as a platform. Being able to firehose content around through tags and reblogging and whatnot is a really powerful part of the user experience, despite the fact that there's an obvious trade-off in terms of user safety, user security, users having the ability to control their own experience, users being able to have healthy interactions, and all the rest of that stuff. It's an instrinsic conflict.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 02:53 am (UTC)(link)I've seen too many people call anything other than YAS QUEEN "hate"
I am (was? As I'm not on there anymore?) fine with people being critical and discussion that weren't positive and whatnot. (As were some others I knew.) What got to me was literal hate constantly spewed in the tag. Like the straw that broke the camel's back for me was when someone did a rewatch of a show and literally all it seemed to be was "Character A sucked in this episode as usual. Here's why." Tagged with Character A and posted daily. That gets very exhausting when the tag of something I love is filled with that.
You can't rely on other people to policy your media for you
I know I can't, but I don't think that a little common courtesy should be too much to ask for either.

But I didn't want a love only tag. I like discussing flaws and things. I just didn't want frequent character bashing. Which I didn't get, so was apparently too much to hope for.

It might have been the fandom I was in, or it might have been that I got out before Antis really took off, but I saw way more assholes who were proud to tag their hate and purposely did so to upset others than I saw assholes on the other side. Obviously YMMV.
I really likes the LJ/DW community format where I could mostly stay away from the hate as a good portion of it was in communities for that purpose. And/or communities could be created and maintained with a no character bashing rule. Tumblr is apparently just not for me, which is why I left. I do really miss fandom sometimes, though. (Hence me still hanging out on FS ages later when I don't really have any fandoms anymore.)

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 02:59 am (UTC)(link)If you were unhappy on tumblr, then you made a good decision to leave. However, it seems like this particular problem could have been solved by blocking that user instead of going their "Why Your Favorite Character Sucks" page every day.

(Anonymous) 2019-06-13 04:23 am (UTC)(link)I couldn't use x-kit on mobile. And I didn't go to his page. He wasn't even just posting it with the series tag (which I didn't go to) but also using the character tag for the character he hated. And it wasn't just him. He was the last straw. I had so many terms and users blacklisted on X-kit.
