I'm not in the Hannibal fandom, but I'm pretty sure everyone agrees Hannibal is not a good dude.

Right? Like that's one of the best parts. 99% of the fans I have seen cheerfully admit the whole thing is seventy shades of fucked up and that Hannibal is unequivocally a fucked up bastard.

Noo, there were some fic that was into woobie Hannibal with no irony.

I remember one that was Bedelia/Hannibal and it went into how much he loved her unlike Will and after she dies, he comes back to get locked in jail just so he can castigate Will on how much he loved her more and how much their love wa better and mocked Will for being narrowminded and pathetic person. And the author and reader comments made it clear they thought Hannibal was in the right and justified.

Felt like I was in another fucking universe.

But anyway, don't underestimate the myopia of people who justify their faves.

More is coming back to me. So this is to underline how mean it was of Will to trick Hannibal into jail and got a family and what a coward he was. Because, you know, embracing being a serial killing cannibal is a good thing??

And it's not like they forgot about the whole Hannibal the Cannibal thing. He literally eats Bedelia after she dies from cancer so they can be together forever (toss glitter) and then he like plucks out his eye? So she could be the last thing he saw with it.

Oh, yeah, I remember all the people who were genuinely hurt and horrified when Hannibal hid Will's encephalitis diagnosis and then set him up for several murders. But but but Hannibal LOVES Will and would never hurt him!

I do think he loves Will (as much as he loves anyone) but hurting people is his entire existence!

Oh yeah, I saw a little of that. And I sort of get it, because that kind of emotional and psychological abuse is more likely to trip rl experiences and it was hard to watch, but it is in his wheelhouse.

I agree, even if Hannibal could help himself, I don't think he would. He enjoys pushing and testing people and he clearly gets a little bored and sometimes downright contemptuous of people who don't push back. Even if he throws tantrums when it doesn't go his way either.

I was in the midst of figuring out what sort of neurological bullshit I was dealing with (turns out it was MS, woooo~) at the time and man...that whole thing about Will dealing with neurological bullshit really hit me hard.

And I liked the show (didn't make it past the first episode of the third season though, the second season turned me off and then I just couldn't go through the motions anymore).

Anyway, I still remember Will saying something about feeling like there was a scream perched under his chin. I felt that way a lot.
