specifically in pollution's case, i feel like a white dude would have been better, just because it's usually white men who are in control of the corporations that are directly responsible for pollution.

that said, if they're making a character nonbinary, cast a nonbinary actor.

Was Pollution specifically nonbinary? I don't remember anyone saying their pronouns.

Narration used 'them' but the courier said Sir.

Yeah, there was a bit when the narrator used 'they' in reference to Pollution. It wasn't a big deal, but I remember having that mildly jarring 'wait I thought we were talking about one specific person, who is this 'they' now?' moment that I often get when 'they' is first introduced in a context where it's not immediately 100% obvious that it's referring to a known non-binary person rather than multiple people or some unknown person. I think it was just that one bit of narration, I don't remember it coming up again.

They also made a big deal out of it for some time during the promotion.

Yeah, it's usually white men in control of pollution.... in Europe and North America. What about the rest of the world. It's pretty racist to think the rest of the world is just digging around in the dirt with sticks. Some of the most polluted rivers in the world are in east Asia.

White men were historically the architects of the broad system of capitalist industry, even if they are not directly responsible for all individual acts of pollution.

Uncomfortable fact - China is the single biggest contributor to world pollution. Try not to get your facts from the "everything wrong about the world is the fault of white people" tumblrinas.
