174. Definitely not alone. I generally try to defend The Village as sorely mishandled by studio execs, and it makes my heart sink to hear it written off with, "Blah, blah, lame twist, blah" and not much else. (Saw it in the theaters three times during a rather trying period in my life -- the last time was at a dollar theater, if it counts, I guess.) First time I liked seeing John Hurt in ages. The way some reviews villify the village elders never felt right to me -- the idea I'd felt was behind a lot of the story was trying to hammer the idea home that terrible actions aren't always made by terrible people. Parents try to do their best, and damn if there wasn't some of their own redemption in there for letting Ivy do what she had to.
