I know of e-publishers who totally disregard the rules of grammar in favor of a structure that will, in their business model, keep readers reading and buying. I know of e-publishers that seem to be on the verge of imploding. I know of e-publishers who mean well, and thus let new, arrogant authors tromp all over them when it comes to much of the publishing process.

I also know e-publishers who are just as serious as print publishers (if not more so), and who have the best interests of their authors in mind. I know e-publishers who treat every manuscript as though it were going to cost them the same amount of money to publish as a print book would. I know authors who detest what their e-publisher (one of the ones mentioned in the first paragraph) does to their books, but are torn between that and having no career at all because e-publishers are 90% more likely than print publishers to take a risk on an author who isn't yet established in the field.

Basically, I agree there are those e-publishers out there to make others look bad, but I don't agree they're all like that, you just have to find the good ones. Mostly, I think I was offended by your insinuation that it is somehow the authors' faults if their publisher rapes the hell out of their book to call in a product.
