Fiction is fiction and people can write whatever they want. That being said, irl, I would be uncomfortable by a typical 17-year-old with a 23-year old. If the 17-year old were more mature for their age (had to take care of their family for years because of family circumstances or something like that) I'd be less bothered by it, but there is such a difference between a high schooler and someone who has likely been on their own (job/college) for five years.
