Honestly, I prefer them as friends. They had their chemistry, but their bond was more on a toe-to-toe basis. I don't especially remember them being played as romantic, so it might just be me, but their relationship seemed deeper in the way that they knew each other best by their banter. Meaning that their back and forth was their little language of telling how each other were, rather than basic flirtation... if that makes any sense.
