No, no you are goddamn right.

I've got several interracial LGBT ships and the fandoms for them are a fucking nightmare if I don't block people, I've tried pushing back in the past and it never works. People just wanna be racist and will do so without reproach.

They're also held up to an insanely high-bar if they're canon too, every tiny little thing about them is scrutinized to hell and back(but two white men can smile at each other and it's omg soooooooog gaaaaaaaaaay sorry I'm fucking bitter), and it feels like the X-fans vs Y-fans bullshit is worse in those fandoms too and it's maddening. I love the both of them ffs stop pitting them against one another!!!

... Sorry for the rant, I have feelings lmao.

Nah, don't apologize for ranting, I totally get it!

Yep! You can always tell the racists when someone brings up the pairing I ship (they're not canon but they're really close friends and have the type of dynamic that usually makes for an insanely popular ship) and they're like "but they're clearly just friends, you're imagining things!" and then the two white guys, who barely interact, will have a random scene where they say like two sentences to each other and suddenly those same people are all "OMG they're so obviously in love!" It's so frustrating.

I remember that dynamic from the Psych fandom. Everybody shipped Shawn/Lassiter and seemed to ignore Gus, and I would have chalked it down to people liking rival ships except so many of the fans seemed to think Shawn and Lassiter were lovebuddies and would get angry at the writers when they fought in canon.

God do I feel you on this.

Endless excuses will be made for white/nonwhite ships being less popular when they have the exact dynamic that would otherwise pull at fans, now individuals not jiving with a ship in one fandom but being all over a W/NW one in another? Not the issue. The issue that overall the attention just isn’t there when it’s not two white guys.

And ofc the nasty hatred that the NW half will get any time they dare to exhibit human emotion. :|

One of my favorite ships is a white/non-white ship and hooboy is the fandom awful about it. In comparison, the "rival" white/white ship of it is hardly given any bullshit.

It's true and you should say it.
