My cousin was disowned at sixteen because her father wanted a son, not another daughter. She collapsed on a bus and died from advanced cancer when she was in her 40s because after so many years of abuse and rejection she was too afraid to try and find a doctor who wouldn't turn her away. Because, as we know, no doctor has ever treated a patient with a dick for cancer before. So yeah. No benefit from sixteen years of patriarchy there.
