I wish it was possible to stop AO3 from logging you as a hit until idk 30 seconds or a paragraph.

I feel a little guilty when I end up hitting the backbutton soon after trying to read something but it raises the hitcount since I've seen some authors talking about their hits versus kudos/comments.

I never understood why people care so much about hit counts. It's probably the most useless stat you can have. I click on so many different fics, a lot by accident too, doesn't mean I actually finished it, let alone liked it.

A lot of times I'll start reading something, then save the link and come back to it, or read a long story in several days, etc., which is also murder on the hit count. I always try cutting my readers some slack if I see I have a high hit count on a story but not as many kudos.
