I agree with part of what you're saying, OP. I haven't been in the actual fandom for most of the past year as RPing it kind of stole my soul and all my time but I've heard tales of wank breaking out and that saddens me. The fandom was so much fun when I first got into it, so welcoming and crack-filled and it produced some of the best stuff I've seen in any of my fandoms. If it's gotten wanky (especially over something as pointless as ship wars, fuck) I'd be really disappointed.

What I don't agree with, though, is that a person can't take the games seriously. One of the things about the series that appeals to me the most is that the amazing crack and humor is balanced so perfectly with some really dark and serious undertones. I love Phoenix's occasional philosophical jaunts, the depths of the relationships between the characters, and all the adult themes that you can easily get out of the games.

Yes, you question a parrot. Obviously it's not meant to ever wallow in darkness. But look at what the game actually deals with, and what happened to all the characters. Look at the viciousness of most of the murders (1:5, anyone?) and the motivations behind all the different killers' actions. Look at what Maya was forced to cope with, Mia's past, Phoenix's history, Edgeworth's fucked up life (don't get me started, my bias will show), Franziska's motivations, Godot's, Iris', and what happened to Pearl. Tell me that's not some deep shite. Not even touching Apollo Justice, as I haven't played it yet.

I love the AA series as much for its complexity and dark themes as I love it for its crack (and its crack is glorious beyond measure). Maybe sometimes they get taken too far (though I won't begrudge people their fun, especially in places like the kink meme) but I don't like to see the games trivialized either.

161. The man has the most soulful eyes I've ever seen on a human being. In the few movies I've seen him in he looks like he's on the verge of sobbing half the time he's on screen. He may not be conventionally pretty, but rest assured you're not the only one who finds him attractive. :D
