Is it, though? That assumes the past is the ideal. For some people it is. For others, it isn't. And I don't think it is for Peggy or Steve. It was one good point in their lives, but they have other good points as well.

Huh. I really can't picture being someone where the past isn't ideal. Most things in the past suck, but the good parts, I will never not want to get back. It seems so insane to me. But I guess I believe it. I don't understand it, but there are a lot of kinds of people I don't understand.

My past was horribly traumatic. In no way would I want to go back to my past. Ever. Not saying Steve or Peggy's pasts were traumatic. But I don't think their pasts were superior to their present, either. Steve had made a family in this time. Peggy had developed her own friends and family.

Hmm. I think I misunderstood. I wouldn't say my past in its entirety was better than my present. Quite the opposite. If I went back to high school, for instance, I would probably kill myself. But that doesn't mean I'm content without the things from my past that I do miss. If I had a time machine, I would go experience those things frequently.

Oh. Hmmm. I mean, I'd like to see my dogs again. But I don't think it would be worth it if it meant having to give up my present. Short trips, sure. But permanently? Never seeing my cat and family and friends who I have now again? Nope. Not a chance.
