I'm the exact opposite. I wish life had a soundtrack. If it was appropriate, I'd have my earphones in and listen to music all the time. I love having a background soundtrack. As it is I put it on when I'm driving, when I'm home and not watching something or talking with family, and when I'm walking somewhere.

It just makes me crazy, after a while, to have constant *sound*. I usually having nothing playing at all, unless i'm in the car for a long drive.

If music *is* playing, it either makes me really twitchy or i tune it out so totally that i don't even hear it.

And i don't do earphones or headphones *at all* - can't stand 'em.

What drives me crazy is all the little sounds of life. Cars driving by. Horns. Hammers. All those things. Music is soothing and an escape. I find life sounds irritating. I much prefer music. Pure silence would be nice, but I rarely if ever find that. Even with ear plugs I can usually pick up a bit of sound.

HA. Those sounds keep me connected. I go nuts if i can't hear what's going on outside, in the street, etc. I hate having the windows all shut up and the AC or heat running - makes me so jumpy!

I've got to the point that i totally tune out sirens and things - sleep right through them (we're on a main street). But if a weird sound happens, or one of the cats is heaving up, or my daughter comes up the hall, that wakes me.

:D

Ha. Everything wakes me up. I have ear plugs and an air purifier for white noise. I can't do any noise when I sleep.

Interesting how different people are.

Right?

Absolute silence means I can (kind of) hear my heart and my breathing, and that is...super-distracting.
