I actually really love new age. :( I get a lot of crap for it, but so much of it is so nice! I really love the focus on melody and the "softness" of it; even when I'm not actively relaxing or something I like to listen to it just because it activates my imagination so well. It's so easy to imagine soft/emotional/wonderous/fantastical sorts of scenes, which are my favorites. And there's so much variety! Idk, I think it gets a bad rap as a genre because everyone just associates it with either "spa" drones or Enya (who I also love, but I understand not enjoying her).

I love New Age too, anon! I also like folk music that has that more neopagan flair to it. I'd rather listen to New Age than pop, for sure.

Yes, for sure! Celtic and Celtic-inspired music too.

Do you have any favorite artists? I've been falling back in love with David Arkenstone lately; I grew up on Quest of the Dream Warrior and Return of the Guardians, but I'm poking around some of his more recent albums and they're just as lovely.

Sometimes I totally listen to New Age, Trance, stuff like that. It's nice!

It's such a broad genre, there's definitely always something for every mood. It just never goes very hard is all. Admittedly I never considered trance as falling under a new age umbrella, but I can see the connections!

Different anon popping in to say yes, I like some New Age stuff too. It can be relaxing.

I see your mention of David Arkenstone and raise you David Lanz (Lanz & Speer) and Friedmann Witecka. God I hope I spelled that right. Lanz's Woodlands and Friedmann's Indian Summer are albums I wore out in the 89-91 era. Also shout out to Ray Lynch, an 80s classic.

I had forgotten all of them until someone running sound at a convention I was working was playing Woodlands during a break before soundstage and I went "wait...I know this song...I know this. This is from my new age phase in high school." so I hit the youtubes and now I have all of those old 80s/90s artists subscribed.
