I like a good sex pollen fic, but my problem with sex pollen is that it's usually just PWP. And PWP has never been my preferred way of consuming smut.

I want ALL the build up, ALL the context, ALL the angst and pining and denial and furtive wanking and being secretly in love with each other, and so on and so forth. And while not all A/B/O has those things, I've certainly found plenty of A/B/O that has it in spades.

Also, sex pollen doesn't have knots and self-lubricating assholes and obscene amounts of come, and I am 3000% DOWN for all that good shit. So there's that.

OTOH, biological determinism and regressive gender roles squick me the fuck out, and A/B/O does have a lot of that, while sex pollen doesn't have much of that. So I'll give sex pollen a big plus for that one.

One final note: holy shit do I wish there were more long sex pollen fics where the crazy, horny, marathon of pollen-provoked fucking happened at the start of the fic, and then the rest of the fic was the characters struggling to deal with the fallout. Yeah I'll take all of that, please.
